Frequently
Asked
Questions! Click again to hide the answer.
- What does the HeartLight Yoga Center offer?
- A: All yoga is therapeutic, and the majority of our yoga classes are specifically
designed to help support and heal the challenges of specific diseases, illnesses,
and forms of chronic pain by working with our clients to provide them with a
plan and tools to learn how to heal. Our therapeutic classes are designed within
the context of helping a specific health challenge by utilizing specific yoga
postures and philosophies that will bring the mind body and spirit into balance
for that condition. No other yoga center in our area currently offers such specialized
and specific support for health challenges.
Traditional classes, with a therapeutic approach, specialized boutique classes are also offered, as are one-on-one and team therapy sessions.
- What traditions of yoga are taught at your Center?
- A: The teachers at The HeartLight Yoga Center live and teach the traditions and philosophies of Hatha yoga and the eight limb path. The overarching style of yoga is viniyoga. In the viniyoga philosophy, true transformation in life takes place in a step-by-step fashion. Before meaningful change or healing can be made, we must identify the obstacles on our path and take steps to move past them. Just as with cultivating wellness, viniyoga recognizes each person's individuality and places great importance on personalizing the path to make it effective. To put it simply, Viniyoga means that each student is right, just as they are.
- What elements of yoga are used in your classes?
- A: Postures (asana), Breathing (pranyama), meditation (Dhyana), visualizations, affirmations, and spirit are all tools that are used to assist students on their path.
- What are your specialized or boutique yoga classes like?
- A: We create specialized classes for specific health challenges or needs. We keep these classes small so you can get personal assistance during the class. They can be used instead of one-on-one sessions or in tandem with your private sessions.
- What is HeartLight Yoga™ One-on-one Therapy?
- A: One-on-one HeartLight Yoga™ Therapy is a private session between one student and one teacher. Each student is met right where they are at in their journey with open mindedness and no judgment. Our hope is to assist the student on their path, using the many tools based in yoga and its philosophy to help the student find the answers they are seeking for peace and wellness.
- What is HeartLight Yoga Team Therapy?
- A: HeartLight Yoga™ Team Therapy is a private session where you meet with
Judi Bar the director of the center and one of her trained yoga therapists, for
evaluation and program planning. You continue to meet and work with the yoga
therapist regularly then meet back with Judi and your yoga therapist every few weeks. Our hope is to assist the student on their path, using a team approach to ensure that the student is fully supported on their healing journey.
- What should I expect during our one-on-one or team therapy sessions?
- A: The first visit consists of meeting your teacher and discussing your personal and medical history, range of motion test if needed, goals for the therapy and how the student and teacher can best work together. We get to know each other and determine what tools we can use in our sessions and lay out a foundation for a healing program.
The next sessions consist of working within the context of the program we created together.
- What Types of Things Will I Do In a Yoga Therapy Session?
- A: Generally our sessions can be broken into 3 categories that include:
Physical Posture or Exercises (Asanas)
A program of physical postures is designed to enhance the healing process for any physical challenge including pain. We not only treat the area, but the area surrounding the pain and how it affects the mind, body and spirit. We always support the student wherever they are at physically, mentally and emotionally. We are there to provide caring and support to create a healing program for the student.
Meditative Movement
Our cells hold onto our memories in life. Many times those memories and feelings that we associate with them get stuck in our bodies and we don’t know how to let them go. Using mindfulness, meditation, and gentle movement, the student is guided through gentle yoga postures to help “unstick” memories so they can be released. This process can be very helpful in your healing process.
Intuitive Healing
This level deals with the energetic or metaphysical reason for your pain. We believe that pain is a message letting you know that you are not in alignment on a physical, mental or spiritual level. In these sessions various energetic healing modalities can be used to help recognize old patterns and create new patterns, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
- Do I have to be physically in shape or fit to take a yoga class or therapy session?
- A: No. Because the classes and sessions are based on your needs they will progress at your personal physical, emotional and spiritual pace. We are here to help you on your journey, to support and care for you on your path. We meet you at your current physical level.
- What different types of pain do you work with?
- A: Pain can be defined as anything that takes our attention away from our day to day life. It can be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. We help you to understand why the pain is there and how to work with it and ultimately how to stop it.
- Can I take a combination of any of the classes that are offered i.e.? One-On-One therapy, Team therapy or Specialized/Boutique classes?
- A: Yes, you can take any combination of classes or therapy sessions. If you have any questions about what classes or sessions may be right for you please call us at 440-356-5991.
- How long do I attend?
- A: When you first begin to attend it is advised to come weekly for a time depending on your personal challenge. Many of our students physical challenges heal but find they want to continue on their spiritual path by continuing to attend One-one-one sessions or group classes. If time or budget does not allow coming every few weeks to check in or taking specialized group classes is also an option.
- Do I have to have chronic pain to come to your center?
- A: NO, every student comes to The HeartLight Yoga Center for different reasons. Some come with physical, emotional or spiritual challenges. Others come to enjoy our small specialized yoga classes taught by trained and certified yoga therapists.
Peace & Blessings to you...Namaste!
